I created Grail, an individual project to practice and learn more about UI & UX design by prototyping a fictitious app. Grail focuses on helping Vinyl collectors find record stores in their local area. It also allows users to rank these stores and sort their favorite stores accordingly. The profile section also helps users sort their favorite genres and musicians.

Grail

My process began by choosing a name for my app that could be easily recognizable. I chose the name “Grail,” referring to the hunt for the Holy Grail. Finding “Grails” is a phrase some vinyl communities use when searching for suitable vinyl records for their collections. Next, I started to test the user interface in some apps; this helped me understand how the user interface is applied. A critical component was to have a consistent style throughout the whole application.

My inspiration for Grail came from being an active vinyl record collector and consistently looking for local record stores to check out. This app could be a guild for new collectors to find places to purchase vinyl records. Eventually, I would like to add a community section where users could trade, buy or sell with local collectors.
